Okay, how can you resist an animated show with a little girl named Pucca that is this cute? Come on, you know you want to watch it. Shout Factory recently released Pucca: Ninjas Love Noodles on DVD.

The Show

Before I start reviewing the episodes on this release, for those of you that aren’t aware of Pucca and how this series got started, I will give you a brief history. Pucca originally started out as a character in South Korea on greeting cards and short Flash cartoon videos that played between other programs. Somehow, Pucca really caught on and soon was garnering attention to the point that it demanded that Pucca star in her own animated series.

Okay, onto the show. Pucca: Ninja’s Love Noodles is a collection of episodes from the first season.  Pucca is a young girl that lives in Sooga Village. Her uncles own Go Rong Restaurant, a noodle restaurant and Pucca helps out when she can. Pucca has a big heart and a zest for life. She giggles all the time, and she can’t help, so don’t hold it against her. One thing makes Pucca’s heart skip a beat is a little ninja boy named Garu. And Pucca chases Garu with a passion, never letting up for a minute in her pursuit.

But Garu doesn’t have time for Pucca and her giggles and kisses. He is too busy trying to be the best ninja he can and hanging out with his friend Abyo, a boy that worships Bruce Lee a bit too much. When he isn’t honing his ninja skills or hanging out with Abyo, he is fighting Tobe. Tobe is a dark warlord with a band of ninja’s at his command.

Did I mention that Santa Claus is also a reoccurring character on this show? No explanation is given; just know that Santa lives in Sooga Village, okay? And for some reason, Pucca’s Uncle Linguini has a distinctly Italian American accent and demeanor. Don’t apply any reason to this, okay? Just enjoy how cute the show is.

If you are diabetic, this show should come with a warning. It is just so cute and sugary; you just can’t help but to sit watching it with a dopey grin on your mug.

This isn’t going to be a long review. The description of the characters and premise and the picture included in the review of little Pucca is enough to know if this is your cup of tea or not.

If you have had a hellish day at work, you could remedy the situation by grabbing an order of lo mein noodles from your local Chinese take out, making some green tea, putting on some fuzzy jammies and popping this disc into the player. In no time flat, you will be grinning like a Cheshire cat.

The Packaging and Bonus Features

The DVD comes in a standard aramay case with a simple design. A nice little extra is an official Ninja ID card, included in the package. Fans of the show will recognize this from one of the episodes where it is featured.

There are 5 Pucca Bumpers included as a bonus feature. These are 15 second short animated sequences that were probably used as fill on different South Korean televison shows. They are all cute.

That is all in the bonus feature category.
