Starring
Carlos Mencia
Besides “dee dee dee,” I think of two words when I think of Carlos Mencia’s Mind of Mencia: outrageously funny! Mencia’s comedy didn’t always appeal to me until I watched his show.
Mind of Mencia: Uncensored Season 2 is an in-your-face take-me-as-I-am hilarious cut-throat comedy. I don’t laugh out loud at a lot of comedians, but Mencia makes me laugh. Mind of Mencia: Uncensored Season 2 was recently released on DVD by Comedy Central.
The
Season
Carlos Mencia stays the same. He’s bold, hyperbolic, and just plain blunt. More than just a standup comedian, Mencia likes to do routines and skits pre-filmed and in front of his live audience. His comedy is usually loud in tone, politically incorrect, and vulgar—a perfect mix for good laughs. Sometimes, Mencia uses some slapstick, but he usually goes light on this and tends to play along racial lines.
In Mind of Mencia, Mencia often pushes the threshold on racial issues. Being Hispanic, Mencia loves to use words like “beener” to talk about his own people. Of course, he doesn’t leave anyone else out either, but I think his comedy challenges us and makes us laugh. As any good comedian, Mencia takes on the political. Your momma might have said that polite company never talks about religion and politics. That’s just bull shit for a comedian. Plus, we need people parodying stupid ideas through their humor.
Mencia’s use of skits and standup offer audiences a mix of reverie and bust-a-gut laughs. Mencia’s skits are often done well with caricature costuming and written as short catchy vignettes. The season opener is a typical skit. Mencia’s in the confessional telling the priest about his raunchy, racy comedy. The priest tells him that God likes his comedy and to keep doing it. Mencia responds with a “fuck yeah!” and leaves the confessional. The priest then turns out to be Satan laughing manically. I also like that Mencia goes out on the streets to ask the public opinion questions. My favorite is about spanking. I also like the one where he asks which gender has it harder. He has one woman wear a prosthetic hard on under he dress and walk around.
There are good episode concepts throughout this season that won’t disappoint. Overall his comedy is funny even if it seems pushy at times. This is one comedian who could probably give us a lot more as time goes on.

The Video
This is your standard full-screen TV transfer. It is in pretty good shape with fair detail and good skin tone. It is plagued with the expected grain and murkiness in black levels that's common with most TV transfers.
7/10
The Audio
The audio is nicely done. There are no balance issues but it's also about as basic as they come. Dialogue, score, and sound effects are cleanly mixed with the dialogue always coming through distortion free.

The
Packaging and Bonus Features
This two disc release is in two amary cases bound in a larger sleeve. The graphic design is pretty abnoxious and well representative of the series.
The release of season two includes uncensored extras such as deleted scenes, bloopers, outtakes, etc—nothing mind blowing but more than we've gotten on similar series hitting DVD.
